Huge era-defining issues are constantly swirling around us: What’s our place in the world? What kind of future do we want? How can we design the world of tomorrow?
These are big and often emotive questions, but becoming combative, shouting over one another, and covering our ears is not the path to progress.
We need to relearn some old skills: listening, discussing, and—when we disagree—doing so with dignity.
Open Mic is about ideas, but it’s specifically about silencing the shouting to let those ideas be voiced, heard, and interrogated in a civilized and respectful space. A space where fact triumphs over fiction and civil society is challenged to create a better future.
Open Mic is for open minds that want to approach challenges from fresh angles, drill down into new ideas, and try to find ways to move forward on some of today’s biggest questions.
It’s brought to life through a series of panels staged throughout 2020, covering such subjects as risk management, the importance of design in problem-solving, and the power of dialogue to take us forward.
So let’s talk, listen, engage, hear, and be heard.
