When the going gets tough, the tough get going. Winnowers are those who keep on pushing in the face of both adversity and triumph. Talent and effort are two key components of success, but without persistence, victory is out of reach.
For Scuderia Ferrari Mission Winnow drivers Sebastian Vettel and Charles Leclerc, persistence is integral to success both on track and in life.
“Persistence I think is important because in the car you have a certain feel about how the car feels, what you’d like the car to do,” Vettel said. According to Vettel, persistence has to come from within to be effective. “I think if somebody asks you not to give up, or to stay at it, to keep focusing; it may succeed for a while but I think in life you only succeed if the motivation comes from inside you. So I think you can only be persistent if that’s what you really want and you’re not told by anybody.”
New Scuderia Ferrari Mission Winnow driver Leclerc has his own take on persistence, using it as a motivator to power through both the good times and the bad.
“I think it’s extremely important,” the Monegasque racer said. “Persistence is a very important word for us. Obviously, during a career there are ups and downs and you always need to push your limits, even in the hard moments. It has not always been easy, but you always need to be persistent to achieve your goals and never give up.”
For both Sebastian and Charles, persistence is the driving force that has helped them achieve their dreams of success in an ultra-competitive field.
“I think the biggest reward for never giving up is to achieve your goals,” Leclerc said. “If you never ever give up and always push and believe in your dreams you will achieve them one day.”
